From 1 May to 30 September, dogs are welcome on the northern section of Westward Ho! Beach between Sandymere Bridge and the Taw and Torridge Estuary. Dogs are not permitted on the main bathing beach south of Sandymere Bridge during this period and must be kept on a lead along the promenade. Outside these dates, dogs can enjoy much more of the beach. Always check local signage before visiting as regulations can occasionally change.

Even during the summer, there is still plenty of space to enjoy the beach with your dog, particularly around the Northam Burrows end of the coastline.

After a walk along the coast, there are several cafés and pubs around Westward Ho! where dogs are welcome in designated areas.

Many establishments provide water bowls outside, and some even offer treats for visiting dogs. During the summer months it’s always worth checking ahead if you plan to eat indoors, but you’ll find plenty of outdoor seating available throughout the village.

Westward Ho! also makes an excellent base for exploring the wider area with your dog.
